About

Becky Wiseman

Becky Wiseman, LSCSW, LCSW is a licensed Clinical Social Worker in Kansas and Missouri. Becky completed her undergraduate degree and her master's degree in social Welfare from the University of Kansas. She has spent the last 24 years in the field working in a variety of settings with the goal to help individuals, families, and athletes grow their insights and actions in a way that honors who they are and how they want to move through their lives. Over the last five years, Becky has specialized in working with student and professional athletes, first at Children’s Mercy Sports Medicine Center and recently with professional soccer team Sporting Kansas City. She provides support for athletes who desire to perform at their highest level which includes gaining interpersonal insights, leaning into the challenges that are innate with being a top performer, and committing to actions that move them towards what is most important in their life.

Becky utilizes the Acceptance and Commitment Theory (ACT) within her practice to help individuals find ways to manage the disruptiveness of difficult experiences and commit to actions that move them toward a meaningful life. Mindfulness is an important component of ACT and helps individuals to move through difficult experiences, rather than getting stuck in their thoughts or feelings. Becky is certified in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) which she utilizes with individuals who have experienced traumatic events and/or sports related injury.

Becky strongly believes that when provided with the tools, individuals can manage their discomfort and engage in a value-driven life. Individuals can determine what is most important in their lives and commit to the actions needed to achieve their goals. Becky understands the importance of creating a safe, non-judgmental environment where all individuals can feel heard and empowered in their treatment process.

Approach to Practice

Our practice holds strong in the belief that the impact of the therapeutic process goes well beyond one moment but can be transformative throughout an individual's lifetime. Our approach is to create a safe environment that allows individuals and families to explore how their experiences, thinking, and reactions impact the life they desire to live. The process of identifying and utilizing clients’ strengths, determining what is most important, and committing to value-driven actions are powerful tools in clients making meaningful and lasting changes in their relationship with self and others.

Commitment isn’t about being perfect, always following through, or never going astray. Commitment means that when you (inevitably) stumble or get off track, you pick yourself up, find your bearings, and carry on in the direction you want to go. Russ Harris gavel
